All of the houses in the Greek islands are painted white with blue accents. Just like the Greek flag! After checking into their hotel, Jimmy, Jimmy’s mom, Petey, and Petey’s parents head over to Perissa Beach. Perissa Beach is on the Aegean Sea. The water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming! “Wow! I’ve never seen black sand before!” Jimmy cries.
“Perissa Beach is also known as ‘Black Beach’ because of all the black sand and black pebbles,” Jimmy’s mom explains. “Let’s go swimming!” Petey yells. Everyone cheers and runs into the water. They splash each other and take turns doing handstands.
“I’m hungry!” Penny says. “Me too!” Jimmy agrees. Everyone runs out of the ocean and heads towards the row of restaurants on the boardwalk. “Let’s try some traditional 傳統的 Greek food,” Penny says. “Great idea!” Jimmy agrees.
They start with a traditional Greek salad. It is full of tomatoes, cucumbers 青瓜, olives, and feta cheese. “This is the most yummy salad ever!” Jimmy says. “Mmm hmm,” Penny agrees with her mouth full. Next, they have vegetable kabobs. The yellow bell peppers, tomatoes, zucchini and mushrooms are served with a yogurt sauce called Tzatziki. “I’m stuffed! 吃飽了!” Penny says. “I hope you saved room for dessert,” Jimmy replies. “We’re going to have my favorite treat, Baklava!”
Baklava is a traditional Greek dessert made with layers 層 of filo dough, chopped nuts 切碎的堅果, and honey. “That was the best dessert ever!” Jimmy says. “We have to get back to the hotel now,” Penny says. “We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow!” After a good night rest, Jimmy and Penny head out on their next adventure 冒險. Today they are going to the village called Ancient Thera. The friends hike up the winding road of Messavouno Mountain.
“That was a long hike!” Penny says. “Good thing we brought a lot of water and snacks!” “Whoa! Look at how cool this place is! I can’t believe nobody lives here!” Jimmy says. “No one has lived here in hundreds of years,” Jimmy explains. “Now it’s a place to explore and learn about history!” They walk through the town center called The Agora and have a picnic 野餐. Then they go to the theater 劇院. Jimmy and Petey run through the big space. There are 1,500 seats! Their last stop of the day is at the end of a cul-de-sac. “Wow! Check out this view!” Penny says. They are at the highest point in the city.
“Did you know that the city is named after the mythical ruler Thera?” Penny asks. “What’s mythical mean?” Jimmy chimes in. “Mythical means make-believe,” Petey’s dad explains. “Cool!” Jimmy says. “What did she rule?” “All of the Greek islands,” Petey’s dad says. “This city was built in her honor.”
As the sun begins to set, everyone begins their journey back down the winding road towards their hotel. On their last day on the island of Santorini, Penny has planned a boat trip for everyone! “Let’s get on the catamaran 雙體船!” Penny says. “What’s a catamaran?” Jimmy asks. “It’s the kind of boat we’re taking,” Penny says. “We’re going to see the volcano!” As the boat sails around the island, Jimmy and Penny point out the red rocks that make up the cliffs 懸崖. “Those cliffs 懸崖 are red because they are made up of crushed 壓碎的 up volcanic 火山 rock,” Jimmy’s mom explains.
Before long, they have made it to the volcano. There are hot springs all around. Jimmy and Penny jump right in to take a swim! The two families stay there all day, swimming, eating, and collecting red rocks and black sand to bring back home. They get back on the boat right in time for sunset. “This was the best vacation ever!” Jimmy says. “We should go to a different Greek island every summer holiday!” Penny chimes in.
“That’s a great idea,Penny,” Jimmy says. “Happy summer holidays, everyone!” Penny cheers. Penny the hedgehog and Penny the Christmas Elf on Vacation final part Written by Chelsea Wolf
